Chicago Bears Franchise Tag Jaylon Johnson

The Chicago Bears have finally decided the best way to keep Jaylon Johnson for now is the franchise tag. Adam Schefter reported this morning that Jaylon Johnson was franchise tagged by the Bears.

The franchise tag number is $19.8 million, but there is still time for Johnson to get a deal done with the Bears. He can technically agree a deal until the window closes on July 15. This was just a way for the Bears to make sure they are keeping Jaylon Johnson on the team for next season.

I still think the Bears will get a deal done with Johnson at some point over the next year. He deserves to be in Chicago and stay in Chicago. This is one of the first instances of Ryan Poles keeping a player that the previous regime had acquired. I think it shows he has the humility to say someone else made a good decision and that he will extend his best players no matter what. Can’t wait to watch Jaylon Johnson continue to shut quarterbacks down and be an integral part of this Bears defense.
